Allocasuarina emuina Genetic Testing
Who: |
Jiren Pty Ltd |
What: |
Threatened Species Assessment |
When: |
2010 |
Where: |
Springs Drive, Inala |
Why: |
A handful of punitive individuals of the endangered Allocasuarina emuina had been identified on the development site. litoria consulting was engaged to survey the entirety of the site to identify all individuals present. Field inspection of the punitive individuals based on morphology alone was inconclusive and genetic testing by the University of the Sunshine Coast was arranged to provide a conclusive result. |
Outcomes: |
Genetic testing results categorically showed that the individuals were in fact the common A. littoralis and it is likely that the similarities with A. emuina (in particular stunted growth and irregular fruits) were due to slashing of the site in previous years. |
