Department of Transport and Main Roads Sensitive Environmental Areas

Litoria Consulting were engaged by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) to undertake ground-truthing of sites identified as part of the Department’s Sensitive Environmental Areas (SEA) program. Litoria undertook assessments detailed surveys of fauna, vegetation and threatening processes in each of the potential sites. The results of the assessments were used to recommend sites to be included in the SEA program and created detailed maintenance plans to assist TMR with the management of each of the recommended sites.

As part of the work, Litoria also undertook a review of approaches used to identify candidate SEA sites. With expertise in conservation biology and spatial analysis, Litoria identified opportunities to improve the scientific rigor of the selection and prioritization of SEA sites using the latest developments from the spatial conservation prioritization literature, together with improvements in spatial data management practices.
