Stockland Corporation

Who: Stockland Corporation
What: Koala Habitat Assessment and Management Plan
When: 2011 – Present
Where: Ripley Valley, Queensland
Why: A Koala Habitat Assessment and Management Plan (KHAMP) was required to address both mandatory information requirements under the Sustainable Planning Act 2009 and the relevant sections of the Koala State Planning Regulatory Provisions. Part of the mandatory information included the requirements for ‘the location, number and species of non-juvenile koala habitat trees that will be cleared, retained and planted’ as part of a residential subdivision.
Outcomes:  Results of the koala survey and habitat assessment of the site suggested:

  • No koalas were observed within the surveyed areas on the day of inspection.
  • No koala scats or scratches on any trees were observed within the surveyed areas.
  • Vegetation had been historically cleared and consisted of predominately cleared areas with very low densities of NJKHT

Assessment indicated the proposed development complies with the relevant sections of the SPRP or would
comply subject to simple conditions.
